'Kookaburra, Koala and Kangaroo' cardigan by Jenny Kee, 1974

Combining local wool and fauna with the traditional craft of knitting, Kee designed this distinctly Australian garment. These first knits were based on a 1950s zipper-fronted varsity-style cardigan Kee found in an op shop. Replacing the cardigan's crude gun design with simple kookaburra, kangaroo and koala motifs, she found a ready market for these Australian knits.
